OUTAGE MARKER
The outage marker is a simple gauging device which is required on non-pressure cars.
It provides a means for visually determining the product level in the car.
There are two different types: a graduated marker, which is most common, and a 2% outage marker.
Older cars may be equipped with the 2% marker, as the outage requirement was 2% at the time of car construction.
The current outage requirement is 1% for all non-TIH products, at stipulated reference temperatures.
Outage markers are not used on pressure cars, because there is no way to
look inside the tank.
