Job Summary:

Principal duties in this position are car repairs including but not limited to:

  • Car repairs involving cutting and welding (SMAW) on the rail body, including tank and/or hopper, and other car components

  • Read, comprehend, and follow repair orders, procedures & blue prints

  • This role requires the successful candidate to work the schedule of Monday to Friday, 06:30am to 3:00 pm, some weekend OT coverage and on occasion, road work away from home on an as needed basis. Please be advised that the schedule may change as business needs dictate.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license required and reliable transportation to get to and from work
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong mechanical background with competent and safe use of hand tools and power equipment
  • Must be able to read and understand written work orders, material safety data sheets, complete work write-ups, and other paper and computer work
  • Prior railcar repair experience or similar, and knowledge of AAR standards an asset
  • Perform and document quality control checks as required by Company and regulatory quality standards
  • Adhere to both customer site and Procor’s health and safety standards (including the Responsible Care policy), and wear the required personal protective equipment for the job in a safe manner
  • Must be able to work in an environment with continuous exposure to outdoor weather conditions with dust, fumes, and noise
  • The ability to work while wearing respiratory protection
  • WHMIS training, experience dealing with hazardous commodities
  • Must be able to climb, stoop, and bend repeatedly, carry hand and power tools.
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, around machinery, and in conditions where there are loud noises and fumes
  • Confined space entry to repair hopper car linings

The normal work schedule for this role is currently Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (8 hours shifts), however this schedule will change as business requirements dictate to include an afternoon or evening shift which will consist of 4, 10 hour shifts. Applicants must be available to work either shift.

Competencies:

  • Valve rebuilding experience (pressure relief device, ball valves, center sealing valves)
  • NDT experience (leak testing, liquid penetrant testing, magnet particle inspection)
  • Welding experience an asset
  • Competent and safe use of shop tools and equipment: cranes, electric/pneumatic/hydraulic tools, and hand tools
  • Railcar repair experience would be an asset
  • Detail oriented
  • Able to work well independently
  • Strong initiative
  • Effective communication and organization skills

  • Perform all necessary AAR repairs to railcars including cutting, straightening, and car repair.

  • Perform basic preventative maintenance checks on used equipment.

This role involves project work that will require travel and overnights away from home base.

Requirements:

  • Must be eligible to work in the Canada.
  • Must be mechanically inclined and able to operate the needed tools for the position.
  • · Must be able to read and understand written work orders and material safety data sheets.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and at heights of 15 feet.

Preferred:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience with rail car repair or general steel work.
  • Pre-employment welding course.
  • Blue print reading.
  • WHMIS training would be an asset.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills, strong initiative and ability to work well under pressure are also desirable.

Rail Car Repair Technician – Fort Saskatchewan, AB

Job Summary:

Principal duties in this position are including but not limited to:

  • Car repairs involving cutting and welding (SMAW) on the safety appliances.
  • Air Arc Gouging
  • Preparing and maintaining documentation for completion of rail car repairs in compliance with regulatory standards
  • Perform necessary repairs to Hopper, Tank railcars and their components, light and medium-duty mechanical repairs, wheel pair, truck components, coupler components servicing, changing out loading valves, airbrake testing, rail car bubble leak testing, etc.
  • Inbound rail car inspections as required
  • Read, comprehend, and follow repair orders and procedures
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • This role requires the successful candidate to work rotating 12-hour shifts.

Requirements:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong mechanical background with competent and safe use of hand tools and power equipment
  • Must be able to read and understand written work orders, material safety data sheets, complete work write-ups, and other paper and computer work
  • Prior railcar repair experience or similar, and knowledge of AAR standards an asset
  • Perform and document quality control checks as required by Company and regulatory quality standards
  • Adhere to both customer site and Procor’s health and safety standards (including the Responsible Care policy), and wear the required personal protective equipment for the job in a safe manner
  • Must be able to work in an environment with continuous exposure to outdoor weather conditions with dust, fumes, and noise
  • The ability to work while wearing respiratory protection
  • WHMIS training, experience dealing with hazardous commodities
  • Must be able to climb, stoop, and bend repeatedly, carry hand and power tools.

Job Summary:

Principal duties in this position are the maintenance and repair/rebuild of the following:  

  • Car repairs involving cutting and welding on the metal jacket and other car components
  • Truck assembly, gauging and replacement of parts and wear components
  • Reading, comprehending, and following repair orders and procedures

The normal schedule for this role will be Monday to Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., however, the schedule may change depending on business requirements.

The starting hourly rate for this role at the Edmonton Service Centre is $38.58 and progresses to $41.51 per hour. There is an afternoon shift differential of $1.20/hour.

Requirements:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Journeyman certificate
  • Minimum 3-5 years of welding experience
  • Able to pass tests in 4-position SMAW, CST, at a minimum, as well as 4 position Flux core (FCAW), and using stainless steel
  • Comprehension of welding and cutting equipment in order to adjust for procedural needs, and to inspect for safe operation
  • Competent and safe use of shop tools and equipment: electric/pneumatic/hydraulic tools, cranes, shears, and hand tools
  • Railcar repair experience is an asset
  • WHMIS trained
  • Detail-oriented and committed to quality
  • Able to work well independently
  • Effective communication and organization skills
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, around machinery, and in conditions where there are loud noises and fumes

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Cut, fit, and repair railcars, their components, and other items as necessary to facilitate railcar repair.
  • Aid other team members as necessary to facilitate railcar repair and productivity.
  • Perform all necessary AAR repairs to railcars including cutting, straightening, cleaning, blasting, and car repair.
  • Perform and document quality control checks as required by Company quality standards.
  • Perform basic P.M. checks on used equipment.
  • Comply with company and regulatory safety and environmental standards.
  • Meet production schedules.
  • Appropriately wear and utilize all of the following types of safety equipment in accordance with EHS instruction and requirements: Respirators (full and half face), hearing protection, eye protection, steel toed boots, and fall protection.
  • Additional related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 1+ months experience using Mig Welding (FCAW).
  • Must be mechanically inclined and able to operate the needed tools for the position.
  • Must be able to read and understand written work orders and material safety data sheets.
  • Must be able to pass an in-house weld test.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with continuous exposure to outdoor weather conditions with dust, fumes, and noise. Must be able to climb, stoop, and bend repeatedly, carry hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and heights of 15 feet.
  • Must pass company physical including pulmonary function, chest and back x-rays.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to work in Canada.
  • Willingness to comply with pre-employment screening, reference verification, and background check.

Preferred:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience with railcar construction or general steel work.
  • Pre-Employment Welding Course.
  • Blueprint reading.
